Artist Statement

Paintings: “Farm and Fashion” is the overall theme of my current work. Biographical and witty, with colliding images of shoes, Grecian urns mixed with fashion dresses that are layered onto corn field landscapes with wallpaper skies. These paintings reflect my lifelong love of fashion and the farm fields of my native rural Ohio.

Details: The smaller works, chickens and shoes, were born as “details” ( as in the study of art history). The chickens, originally began as bridesmaids accompanying a rural wedding gown scene, are now “chix” raised to an iconic and personified status with fabulous jewelry set against embellished backgrounds.

The shoe paintings represent my love of the most important accessory of fashion. These paintings were inspired by a pair of shoes,( hand painted silk pumps) once lovingly worn by a fellow artist, Franzee Dolbeare. These works have titles that reflect rationales women apply when purchasing yet another pair of shoes! All are painted in a square format. The paintings are all acrylic on canvas.

Prints: My Giclee prints are made from digital photographs and printed on 100% rag archival paper. Each Giclee is signed and numbered and slightly smaller than the original works. The Giclees prints are offered in the chicken and shoe series.
